Trimming oak tree

I need some limbs on two oak trees removed. it is hard to figure out which limbs were dead last fall. I would like to wait until the tree leaves out. Is this a good idea ?

It is safest to prune Oak trees during the dormant season. Experienced arborists have an easier time distinguishing limbs that are partially alive from those that are dead. Pruning Oaks is best completed in February through early March although any time from December through early March is good timing. Risking a tree wound with a winter pruning is overall a better choice than pruning dead limbs during the growing season.

That said, skilled arborists pruning clearly dead limbs after leaf out is acceptable and extremely low risk when completed responsibly. Make sure you have a reputable tree surgeon for Oak pruning after leaf out.
